Not all breeds are equal, and among the ursine animals that survived The Great Frost, the dire bear reigns supreme. Over 20 feet tall when standing upright, the dire bear is an animal juggernaut, every bit as strong as it appears, and much faster than humanoids would think. Its curved foreclaws are over 8 inches longs, and equal capable of digging through frozen ground or slicing apart chainmail.

Originally domesticated by northern elves in an age before The Great Frost, aelfdier are a type of sylvan elk that flourished as the world froze around them. Their hides come in a variety of colors and patterns, but most are shades of white and grey. All aelfdier have pale silver antlers stretching treelike from their heads, with extremely sharp edges. Aelfdier herds can be found almost anywhere in Nyth but Shalanar, Talos, and Bacau Gara. They are especially numerous north of the Covasna Mountains, and the powers in Satu Amanar are said to keep vast domesticated herds.
